Description
A Corleone private tour from Palermo puts you in the company of someone who grew up in the town, and stays with you from the first hello to the last goodbye. The group is yours alone, with a maximum of 4 guests, and the day lasts about eight hours.
You are collected at your accommodation in Palermo (other places in western Sicily can be arranged on request) and cross valleys, vineyards and olive groves while your host tells the story of the land behind the Hollywood version. In Corleone you walk the historic centre on foot, through narrow medieval lanes and hidden squares, hearing how saints, nobles, peasants and the Mafia each left their mark.
- A visit to the CIDMA, the documentation centre on Mafia and Anti-Mafia, where images and testimonies cover the dark years and the civic resistance (entrance included)
- The Cascata delle Due Rocche, a short walk from the town centre
- The Ficuzza Royal Hunting Lodge, a Bourbon palace of 1799 set in a protected forest (entrance included)
A free hour at midday lets you choose a local place for lunch, with a recommendation from your host; lunch and drinks are not included. Expect cobblestones and some gentle climbs in the old centre, so wear comfortable shoes. The tour is given in English or Italian, and it is not suitable for wheelchair users. Ask your host anything you like along the way: that freedom is what sets this day apart from a standard excursion.
