Description
Opera dei Pupi in Palermo is a taste of a living Sicilian tradition, recognised as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The hour-long visit takes place in a historic puppet theatre in the UNESCO area around Palermo Cathedral, and the entrance ticket is included.
The visit centres on a real puppet performance. You follow the epic deeds of the paladins: duels, sorcery and battles played out on hand-painted sets, while the puppeteer gives each character a voice and a life of its own.
The route brings together performance, craftsmanship and culture, so you see not only the story but the skill behind the puppets and the way they are brought to life. It gives a lively look at an art form that belongs to Sicily's intangible heritage.
The guided visit is offered in English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese, so most visitors can pick a language they follow. The entrance ticket is part of the booking.
