Description
On this Palermo street food tour a guide leads you through the old town with a plate always within reach. You pass buildings in many architectural styles and learn what the dishes say about local culture and history.
Landmarks on the way include the Opera dei Pupi, Palermo's traditional puppet theatre, then Piazza Beati Paoli, the Quattro Canti crossing, the Pretoria Fountain and the Cathedral. It also crosses the lively Capo market, with its meats, seafood, produce and Sicilian snacks.
The five tastings are real street classics:
- sfincione, topped with onion, breadcrumbs, tomato and oregano
- panelle, fried chickpea flour
- crocche, potato croquettes
- arancine, filled with meat or butter
- a cannolo, a crunchy shell with sweet cheese, for dessert
One drink is included, a beer, water or cola. If you have dietary restrictions, say so when you book. Cruise passengers can ask the guide for a pickup at the port. The Cathedral has a dress code: cover shoulders and legs.
