Description
This Segesta and Erice day trip from Palermo gathers the best of western Sicily into one full day of about eight hours. Because the sites lie relatively close to the city, there is time to look around each of them rather than rushing from one photo stop to the next.
The day begins at Segesta, a Greek archaeological site. From there the road heads on to Nubia and the Salt Pans of Trapani, with views of the Sicilian coast and open countryside along the way. The last stop is Erice, a medieval town perched on a hilltop, where the views are wide.
The route is also known as the Elymian road, after the Elymians, among the first people to settle this part of the island.
