Description
The Garraffello Fountain is a fountain dating back to 1591. It is located in the square of the same name, within the Vucciria district, in the Castello a Mare ward of Palermo.
It should not be confused with the Garraffo fountain. Both fountains derive their name from the Arabic word "gharraff" (abundant with water).
It was placed there in the 16th century. The water that flowed from it was long considered capable of curing many ailments. For this reason, throughout history, many people would come from other neighborhoods to collect its water.
It was spared from the bombing of the city during World War II, despite the surrounding area being heavily damaged.
