Embark on an unforgettable adventure to Europe's highest active volcano, Mount Etna (a towering 3,345 meters!), and the charming town of Taormina, nestled on the slopes of Mount Tauro. This guided excursion offers ample free time to explore the highlights of both locations.
Your journey begins with a convenient meeting at a designated location in Palermo, followed by a scenic drive to Etna. Once there, you'll have the freedom to explore the fascinating Silvestri Craters and other captivating areas at your own pace.
Choose your Etna ascent:
* **Option 1: Reaching 2,500 Meters:** Take a thrilling cable car ride from the Funivia dell’Etna base up to 2,500 meters (Montagnola). From this vantage point, you can enjoy breathtaking views, take a leisurely stroll, embark on a short hike, or simply relax with a drink at the summit bar. There's an additional cost of approximately €30 per person payable locally.
* **Option 2: Summiting to 2,920 Meters:** Begin with the cable car to 2,500 meters (Montagnola), then continue your ascent in a specialized 4x4 UNI-MOG vehicle to 2,800 meters, accompanied by a licensed Etna guide. A short hike from there will take you to the impressive height of 2,920 meters. This option has an additional cost of approximately €60 per person, payable on-site.
After your Etna experience, you'll travel to the picturesque town of Taormina, perched majestically on the slopes of Mount Tauro (204 meters). Explore this captivating town independently, at your own leisure. Discover the ancient Greek-Roman Theatre and soak in the breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Etna and the sparkling Taormina Bay. Finally, you'll be comfortably returned to your departure point in Palermo.
